Patty Mayer has served the OLIH community as the Director of Adult Faith Formation since 2015.She began both leading the OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults, aka Becoming Catholic) process and walking with others through Spiritual Direction in 2019.
Her professional life began as a counselor in a residential treatment facility for juvenile delinquents. After 12 years she came to know that this was no longer where God was calling her. After significant discernment Patty left her career and her community in Dubuque, to serve the Catholic Church in Marshalltown, IA. She spent nine years as Director of Religious Education in Marshalltown serving the faith community now known as St Francis of Assisi Parish. Patty was content in Marshalltown until she once again felt the Lord preparing her to move. Once again, through prayer and discernment Patty was led to her current ministry here at OLIH.
Patty holds a BA in Psychology, a MA in Pastoral Ministry, and a Spiritual Direction Certification.
Her greatest passion in life is walking with others on their faith journey and bringing them closer to Jesus. At OLIH, Patty coordinates with parishioners to be able to offer a variety of studies, faith sharing opportunities, workshops, and retreat experiences – the work of ministry takes many hands! Whether you are new to faith and seeking to join the Catholic church, or a mature Catholic Christian looking for ways to continue to grow your faith, Patty is here to help you discern God’s call for you and where you may find what you need to answer that call.
Patty’s ‘office hours’ are inconsistent due to the various aspects of her ministry. She is generally in the office Monday through Thursday with various evening and weekend events. The best way to reach Patty is via email.
